What is the difference between LASIK, LASEK, and SMILE?

LASIK reshapes the cornea with a laser after creating a corneal flap. LASEK reshapes the cornea after removing the surface epithelium. SMILE-type procedures create a small disc of tissue, called a lenticule, within the cornea and remove it through a small incision. Recovery and suitability differ between procedures, so the choice should be based on a thorough examination.
