| What is a Light Adjustable Lens (LAL), and what are its advantages? |

|
A Light Adjustable Lens (LAL) is an intraocular lens whose optical power can be adjusted with light after cataract surgery. Its main advantage is that nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism can be fine-tuned after your eye has healed and your actual postoperative vision can be measured. Unlike conventional IOLs, whose power is generally fixed at implantation, an LAL allows postoperative adjustments that may improve accuracy in reaching the intended prescription and reduce dependence on glasses. Several follow-up visits, light-adjustment sessions, and final lock-in treatments are required. You must also wear the prescribed UV-protective glasses until the adjustment and lock-in process is complete, as instructed by your surgeon. |
