Do I need a new IOL if I develop a secondary cataract?

What is commonly called a “secondary cataract” is usually posterior capsule opacification (PCO). When treatment is needed, it can often be managed with a YAG laser capsulotomy rather than an IOL exchange. However, if the cause of blurred vision is uncertain or an IOL exchange may be needed, it is important to assess the eye before performing the laser procedure, because an open posterior capsule can make later surgery more difficult.
