Is a retinal tear the same as retinal detachment?
No. A retinal tear or hole is a break in the retina, while retinal detachment occurs when the retina separates from the tissue beneath it. Some retinal tears can be treated with laser before detachment develops. If detachment has already occurred, surgery may be necessary.
