Dr. Sungjin Na, Chief Director of First Samsung Eye Center, Presents at the 25th Catholic Refractive Surgery Symposium

Dr. Sungjin Na, Chief Director of First Samsung Eye Center, was invited as a speaker at the 25th Catholic Refractive Surgery Symposium to present his clinical experience and treatment outcomes with the Light Adjustable Lens (LAL).

During his presentation, themed "Light Adjustable Lens (LAL) for minimal residual refractive error," he introduced a novel treatment strategy designed to minimize the minute refractive errors that can remain after cataract surgery and to achieve perfectly customized vision for each patient.

The LAL is an advanced intraocular lens that allows its refractive power to be fine-tuned using UV light even after cataract surgery has been completed. In the past, if the refractive power did not perfectly match after surgery, a reoperation was sometimes necessary. However, because the LAL can be adjusted after verifying the patient's actual post-operative visual state, it offers more precise and highly satisfactory visual outcomes.

The lecture garnered significant attention as Dr. Na shared various successful cases where the LAL was applied to patients for whom predicting refractive power is far more challenging than in typical cataract surgeries. These included patients with high myopia, a history of LASIK, LASEK, or Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL) surgery, as well as those undergoing cataract reoperations, intraocular lens exchanges, and scleral fixation.

Dr. Na explained, "Cataract surgery does not simply end with the insertion of a lens; what truly matters is how comfortably and clearly the patient can see in their everyday life. The greatest advantage of the LAL is its ability to provide highly accurate vision through post-operative adjustments, especially for patients whose results are difficult to predict using conventional methods."

Moving forward, First Samsung Eye Center will continue to do its utmost to provide more precise, customized medical services backed by the latest technology and our extensive clinical experience.

Thank you.
